Some villains have reentered a village they were banished from. A threshold, like a gate, must be passed through when entering an Aisling village area. No banished or exiled villain can pass through it.

On the way out of an Aisling village area, one does not pass through the threshold, so one need not see or hear (at least in that village) the banished or exiled villain.
