Recently, a great number of players have been writing about how the game of Dark Ages is beginning to lose some of the Role Playing flavor with people running around with character names like xxxViperxxx or their use of 'LOL' and 'BRB'.
Dark Ages was created as a Role Playing game based in a mythical, fantasy medieval genre with celtic influences. Long ago, it was considered heresy to use 'LOL' or have bad names within the game. And it is something that needs to be thought about again.
Dark Ages has a very special situation, where the players are the ones who decide upon the political laws and codes within the game. As long as they do not contradict any that are in the Licensing agreement, such as making it legal to harass people, then it is a just law.
If the justices wish to make it a crime of Heresy to use bad names or inappropriate phrases like 'LOL' then they can, on one condition. They need to enforce it unilaterally. A Guard or Judge who punishes one person for such an infraction must punish anyone who breaks the law.
Dark Ages should be run by the players and for the players. As of 01/22/01 if the justice systems within the game wish to make the above mentioned items grounds for Heresy, they can enforce those laws.
